Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, met with Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in a number of projects and areas of common interest, foremost among them the preservation of Egyptian cultural heritage and the protection of its antiquities, in the presence of Dr. Tarek Dahroug, Egypt’s Ambassador to France.
This meeting comes as part of the Minister’s current official visit to the French capital, Paris, which includes a series of official and professional meetings with industry partners, including major tour operators and airlines operating in the French market, to discuss ways to enhance inbound tourism to the Egyptian tourist destination in the coming period from the French market, which is one of the most important European markets exporting tourism to Egypt.
The meeting addressed the importance of continuing close cooperation between Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and UNESCO in the areas of protecting antiquities, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting joint projects in these areas, as well as cooperation in supporting capacity-building programs and promoting sustainable and cultural tourism as an engine for development, reflecting the depth of Egyptian civilization and its contribution to human heritage.
The meeting was attended by Professor Rana Gohar, Advisor to the Minister for Communication and Foreign Relations and General Supervisor of the General Administration of International Relations and Agreements in the Ministry, Dr. Ahmed Nabil, Assistant Minister for Aviation and Follow-up, and a number of officials from the Egyptian Embassy in France and UNESCO.
